Gavin Black '10

photo of Gavin BlackLast summer Gavin Black ’10 earned a coveted research fellowship with the International Maritime Organization in London, studying the dramatic changes in U.S. laws governing international shipping since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and how local and international businesses have had to adapt.

Black arrived at RWU Law with considerable maritime experience already under his belt: he was an experienced marine agent who’d worked ensuring the safe arrival of oil tankers, automobile ships, container and cargo vessels in U.S. ports – including during the chaotic post-2001 period. Later he became a quality-control director in the industry.

Now RWU Law is preparing him for the next level. “I’m consistently amazed at how uniquely poised this school is to produce future leaders in the increasingly central field of Maritime Law,” he says.
