Street Law

Street Law is a national program that partners law students with local public schools and community-based organizations to teach youth about their legal rights and responsibilities.

The Feinstein Institute initiated a Street Law program at the School of Law in 2002. In 2006, RWU School of Law was selected as one of just ten law schools to participate in a Diversity Pipeline Initiative to use the Street Law program to encourage youth of color to consider legal careers.
In 2010, the program became completely student-organized and run. The program focuses on serving disadvantaged youth in urban areas of Rhode Island. Students prepare interactive lessons and activities and teach in public high schools and community organizations. One of the primary  community partners is the YMCA of Greater Providence. Law students teach the Street Law curriculum to disadvantaged youth interested in the law through the Championing Our Students Initiative sponsored by the American Bar Association.

Student leaders hold an information session at the beginning of each semester.
