2009 Bar Pass Wrap Up

Posted by David Logan on 02/12/2010 at 12:00 AM

The results are in for the 2009 bar exams, and once again RWU Law grads performed at a very high level.   Of the 140 members of the Class of 2009 that sat for the July bar exam in our top five states (in order: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey), 129 passed at least one bar exam – for an overall pass rate of 92%.

Our first time pass rate for the July 2009 bar exam for all graduates of RWU Law in these key states was equally impressive.

93%  Massachusetts
85%  Rhode Island
81%  New York
82%  Connecticut
85%  New Jersey

The excellent 2009 results are consistent with outcomes in recent years.  For example, Massachusetts, the state where most of our students take the bar exam, our first-time takers (the gold standard used by the American Bar Association) passed at 93% in 2009, 92% in 2008, and 89% in 2008 (besting the overall state rate in 2008 and 2009).  This is quite impressive when you consider that RWU grads are competing with many grads from Harvard, Boston College, and Boston University.

Such excellent outcomes do not occur by chance: our strong student body gets a rigorous education in a personalized setting, so they are well-prepared for the challenges of both the bar exam and practice.  Congratulations to the Class of 2009!
