Celebrating the Annual Alumni Weekend

Stephen L. Cohen delivers Santoro LectureThe Law Alumni Association (LAA) hosted another Annual Alumni Weekend at the end of September, running from Thursday, September 22 to Sunday, September 25; and it was full of events that gave alums from all class years a chance to learn something new, reconnect with one another and meet alums from all over.

The weekend was kicked off by the 5th Annual Professor Santoro Business Law Lecture at the Omni Hotel in Providence.  Stephen L. Cohen, former Associate Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Enforcement Division, presented Enforcing Insider Trading Laws: The Changing Landscape.

This year, the class of 2006 stepped it up in a big way and held a 10-year reunion BBQ on Saturday, September 24 at the law school.  Class members traveled from Washington, California, Georgia, to name a few, with their significant others and children to attend the weekend festivities. A special thank you to LAA Board Member Joelle Rocha '06, who put in a lot of effort organizing the events and encouraging people to attend.

Santoro LectureSaturday evening, the LAA hosted a reception at The Dorrance in downtown Providence, amongst the hustle and bustle of thousands attending WaterFire in the city that night.  The reception was also well attended, as members of the class of 2006 kept the party going from the afternoon BBQ, and other alums from various class years joined in the festivities.  The Dorrance was a great choice to hold this reception - there was great ambiance, food, drinks and conversation.

LAA Scholarship Golf TournamentThe weekend was capped off on Sunday, September 25, with the 17th Annual LAA Scholarship Golf Tournament.  We raised funds to support the Law Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, which awards deserving second-year law students a scholarship each year. It got a little chilly as the day went on, but Metacomet Country Club is a beautiful course and the golfers had a fabulous time.  After golf, there was a silent auction and dinner reception where many of the players relaxed after a long day on the course and some won awards for closest to the pin and longest drive, among others.

LAA Scholarship Golf TournamentIf you attended any of the events throughout the weekend, I’m sure you had a good time chatting with your friends, former classmates and new acquaintances.  I hope you’re encouraged to attend other events sponsored by the LAA throughout the year.

Please stay tuned to your email and social networks for announcements about upcoming events – like the Law Alumni Reception at our NEW Providence campus scheduled for Friday, November 4th and the LAA Holiday Reception scheduled for December 1st.
