The academic year officially begins with orientation for the new group of 1Ls. The class of 2015 is drawn from more than 100 undergraduate institutions, including Duke, Dartmouth, BC, UTEP, Pepperdine, Gettysburg, Rowan, Smith, and SUNY-Maritime, but the top feeder schools are close to home: U Conn, Providence College, RI College, the U of Rhode Island, and Roger Williams.
In the mix are a firefighter, a freelance writer, a park ranger, a logger, an environmental officer on cruise ships, a social worker, the steersman on a tugboat, a sailing race coach, a professional figure skating coach, a water polo coach in Trinidad, a bank manager from Canada, a probation officer in Puerto Rico, and a police officer from South Korea.
Plenty are media types from the world of high fashion and the Food Network, while an amazing 9% of the men are Eagle Scouts! There are also talented athletes, including a Division I hammer thrower, the captain of an NCAA ranked volleyball team, and someone who has sailed on both national championship high school and college sailing teams (that would be the RWU sailing team--something we are very proud of at RWU).
Kudos to Admissions Dean Michael Donnelly-Boylen and his team for once again shaping a group that will be fun to teach and who have the potential to be successful lawyers wherever their passions take them.
