Congratulations to newlyweds Jennifer Coliflores‘11 and Eric Rosenthal of Pawtucket, R.I. who were married before TV cameras and family and friends in January.  The couple won the grand prize of a $40,000 wedding in a contest sponsored by NBC10 WJAR and Video Excellence.  The grand prize included the ceremony officiated by daytime-tv star Judge Frank Caprio, and a reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, wedding music, photography, videography, wedding attire for both the bride and the groom, wedding rings, invitations, the honeymoon, planning services, hair and makeup, rehearsal dinner, and wedding favors.

The couple was engaged in June and originally hoped for a fall 2011 wedding after Jennifer took the bar exam, but their plans dramatically changed after winning the wedding giveaway.  Jennifer recalls, “As I was getting ready for school one day, I saw an advertisement for NBC 10’s Free Wedding Giveaway.  I thought to myself, ‘How fun would it be to win a wedding!’ I filled out the entry form while sitting in the law school library, and then submitted it and put it out of my mind, assuming that we would be notified if we made the casting call.”

That call did come, and then came the interview and a short video they made dressed up as Frank Coletta and Patrice Wood (Channel 10 newscasters) and “reported” on their wedding.  A week later, they were announced as one of the four finalists.  The grand prize announcement was made during a taping in the studio and aired the next day.  Jennifer had to keep the secret until the live broadcast when her friends gathered in the law school cafeteria to watch the results together.  Jennifer said, “we crowded around the television in the Bistro to watch the results.  Everyone at the law school had been rooting us on, so it was a great feeling to have everyone so excited for our win.”

Jennifer said, “finding out we had won was unreal. It didn’t really sink in until the Party Dress Express sponsor came up to congratulate me and tell me that they ALREADY had three dresses picked out for the viewers to vote on. At that point, I knew that every detail of my wedding was now in the hands of the NBC 10 viewers.”

The wedding aired on WJAR/NBC10 during a viewing party hosted at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with Jennifer, Eric, plus family and friends.  Jennifer explains, “while the regular wedding planning stress was pretty much lifted because the choices were out of our hands, we still had to make our guest list and accommodation arrangements for guests quickly because we had folks coming from all over the United States and even Europe and the Philippines.”

Looking back on the experience, Jennifer exclaims, “it was pretty crazy, but Eric and I were very fortunate to have had this opportunity.  Our wedding was beautiful, and we would do it all over again if given the chance.”
