Santoro Lecture and Golf Tournament Bookend Alumni Weekend ...

Posted by Michael Yelnosky on 10/19/2015 at 10:26 AM

Alumni weekend this year ran from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27.  The kick-off event on Thursday was the latest installment in the Anthony J. Santoro Business Law Lecture Series.  We were proud to host Gigi Sohn, Counselor to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.  Her lecture was entitled, “Consumer Protection in the Broadband Era: The Role of the FCC."   Ms. Sohn discussed the many (but underappreciated) ways in which the FCC regulates to protect consumers as they increasingly interact with television, phone, and cable service.  We were also joined by Professor Santoro and his wife Pauline, as well as alumnus Brian Ali ‘06, who helped establish the fund that supports this important series.  You can see from the attached pictures that the lecture brought students, faculty, alumni, and other lawyers, judges and government officials together to discuss the issues and enjoy each other’s company.

The final event of the weekend was on Sunday - the Annual Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Tournament at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence.  (Friday and Saturday events were held in both Bristol and Providence).  The weather was lovely, the course was in beautiful shape, lots of old and new friends had fun together, and the Alumni Association raised more money for the scholarship fund, which grows each year.  It is truly a highlight of the year when the scholarships are awarded to rising 2L students at the Law Alumni Association Annual Breakfast in the spring.  Here are some pictures of a perfect day of golf, camaraderie, and generosity.
