Students Represent Small Businesses in New RWU Law Clinic

Posted by David Logan on 10/03/2013 at 04:30 PM

RWU Law continues to expand the opportunities for its students to work as a lawyer during their third year of law school, preparing them to hit the ground running after graduation.  One recent addition is our In-House Counsel Clinical Externship http://law.rwu.edu/externship, which enables a dozen students each semester to work in the legal offices of leading businesses in the region, including the Boston Red Sox and CVS.

This semester we added another terrific experiential learning opportunity: our Community Economic Development Clinic, run by Professor Gowri Krishna, who came to RWU after running similar programs at Fordham and Michigan Law Schools. The CEDC provides free legal services to start ups, small businesses and nonprofits on a range of matters, like incorporation, taxes, and leasing or purchasing property, helping to build the RI economy by helping entrepreneurs get a lift off.

We recently hosted a ribbon-cutting for the program (located in our downtown Providence facility) and were honored to have leaders of the business and law community attending and presenting. Here are links to some of the media coverage and below that some pictures from the event.
