Study Aids

Posted by Library Blog on 10/11/2013 at 11:07 AM

With the semester well underway, now is a great time to test your understanding of the concepts discussed in your classes.  To gauge your progress, consider tackling a few CALI lessons.  CALI has over 900 free interactive tutorials on 35 legal subjects.  Sign up to access the CALI lessons by using the Law School’s authorization code which you can obtain from the Librarian staffing the Reference Desk (or email LawLibraryHelp@rwu.edu).

If you are struggling with understanding the course material, take a look at a couple of study aids.
The Law Library offers study aids for upper-level as well as first-year courses. The study aids range from the most basic to detailed coverage of the subject with extensive references to cases and secondary sources.  Read a “Nutshell” or a “Concepts and Insights” for a broad overview of the subject.  If you are looking for hypotheticals, you can’t do any better than using an “Examples & Explanations” study aid.  If you think you understand the subject fairly well but want more discussion of it, try a study aid from the “Understanding…” series or a hornbook.

Current editions of all study aids are available on Reserve.  Copy 1 and copy 2 of study aids circulate for two hours use within the law school building.  Copy 3 and higher can be checked out from the Law Library for forty-eight (48) hours.  Older editions of the study aids are shelved in the stacks by call number and can be checked out from the Law Library for twenty-eight days.

For information on available study aids for first year courses and several upper-level courses, take a look at the Study Aids series of law guides.
