Having served 22 years in the Navy before coming to law school, some habits die harder than others. One thing that we always stressed during my time in the Navy was filing a Post Exercise report – or “Post-Ex” for short – to let everyone know about what happened during an exercise and think ahead to the next time that event would be held.  So now that Alternative Spring Break 2015 is in the record books, I just wanted to take a second and file a Post-Ex to let you know how it went.  This year’s Alternative Spring Break (ASB) was our largest ever with 58 students participating in 17...

Members of the RWU Law’s Association for Public Interest Law (APIL) started Alternative Spring Break (ASB) during spring break 2006, as an opportunity to assist those recovering from the devastation caused when Hurricane Katrina made landfall in August 2005. Since its inception, ASB has continued to grow every year.  In its first year, there was just one placement and a handful of dedicated students. Now, in 2015, it has grown to 17 placements in eight different states with 58 student participants.  Many of our supervising attorneys are RWU Law alumni. The program is funded by a...

After eleven years as Dean, Dean David Logan is going to be stepping down as Dean of Roger Williams University School of Law and returning to teaching full time at the Law School.  On Thursday, May 15, 2014, the School of Law took a moment to honor Dean Logan's service as Dean in a ceremony renaming the main conference room on the second floor in his honor.  I had the chance to attend the ceremony and wanted to share some of the photos from the event.  Dean Logan was joined by his family, friends, colleagues, distinguished members of the Bench and Bar, faculty, staff and...

First, I would like to apologize for the amount of time between my last post and this one.  It has been a hectic semester and it is amazing how fast time flies!  I finished up my last final last Thursday and I have been able to take a bit of time to relax and reflect on the past semester.  Overall, the classes were great and with finals in the rear view mirror it is a blessing.  We won’t find out our grades for another month or so, but it is just good to have them finished.  Spring came late this year and we had snow even in April, but the weather has turned beautiful...

It seems hard to believe but my first semester of law school is complete and Winter Break is upon us.  It is great to have a couple of weeks off to relax, rest, and enjoy time with friends and family.  Having two weeks off is a luxury that I haven’t had in almost 25 years, so I will definitely enjoy that. The first semester flew by, and with my first set of Law School Finals in the rearview mirror, it is a good opportunity to reflect on tests in Law School.  Finals in law school are like no other experience I have ever had.   Three hours to tell the professor what you...

It is hard to believe that it is already mid-November and we are almost done with the semester!               The loss of daylight savings time is a bummer because now it gets dark here in Bristol long before I head home and when I wake up in the morning it is also dark.  Winter is just around the corner and I am hoping for a relatively mild one so the commute between Lincoln and Bristol won’t be too bad.  I actually enjoy the trip home on most evenings—it gives me a chance to reflect on the day...

After a full career in the Navy, as I was preparing to retire, I would always get the question, “so what are you going to do after retirement?”  I was always proud to say that I was going to be attending Roger Williams University School of Law (whew… from here on out, RWU Law) and I would always be told, “Oh, so you are JUST going back to school…”  It always struck me as a little bit of an understatement, and it always seemed that they were implying that I was going to have all sorts of time because I was “just going to be in school.”  As it turns out, it was more than just “a...
