RWU Law is very proud of its students who are affiliated with the U.S. armed forces, one of the highest callings in our democracy, and two received special recognition over the summer. Matt Sinnot chose to hold his formal promotion to First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in the law school building, in front of proud parents, faculty, staff, and classmates (who went through their own “boot camp” with him - the first year of law school!).  Matt is a founding member of one of our newest and most active student groups, the Military Law Society.  3L Brandy Disbennett won...

Their average age is 25. They are notably diverse, with 25% hailing from racial and ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession, and they speak many languages including Spanish, French, Arabic, Urdu, Cantonese, and Hindi. Their professional backgrounds are also diverse, including folks who have worked as: the Chief of Staff to the Providence City...

One of the stars of our faculty, Michael Yelnosky, is making quite a name for his empirical work on the judicial selection process.  His initial focus was the state level, and a conference he organized critiqued the ways judges have been selected in Rhode Island, reaching some interesting, indeed controversial conclusions. http://law.rwu.edu/story/professor-yelnosky-leads-judicial-selection-forum Now he has turned his focus to the federal level, with an op-ed in the Washington Post that shed light on the lack of diversity on the all-important ABA panel that pre-screens all nominees for...
