This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Marine Affairs Institute. To celebrate, we hosted the 10th Marine Law Symposium, Legal and Policy Approaches to Reduce Marine Debris in New England, on November 5.  We partnered with the Roger Williams Law Review to host the symposium, and highlighted the work of our students during our Welcome Dinner on November 4.    The symposium focused on a problem that poses a great threat to coastlines around the world: marine debris.  Every year, derelict fishing gear, plastic bottles, plastic bags, cigarette butts, abandoned vessels, and...

MAI Graduate Jobs! When I meet with prospective students interested in marine affairs, they often ask me what kind of jobs our graduates have.  It’s a great question and one that I love answering.  Our graduates can be found all over the country working in diverse marine affairs jobs. It has been a busy fall at the Marine Affairs Institute!  In late September, we held our annual “Meet the Bay” trip with our 1Ls.  Save the Bay, a Rhode Island non-profit dedicated to the restoration and health of Narragansett Bay, took us on a tour of the 1Ls' home for the next three years -- Narragansett Bay.  The students helped Save the Bay staff conduct a trawl of the Bay, and learned about ocean and coastal advocacy from Baykeeper Tom Kutcher, while I talked about the programs offered at the MAI, including our joint degree program with the University of Rhode Island....
