Justin Pruett (’11) has been awarded the 2010 Law Student Ethics Awards presented by the Northeast Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel at a dinner on April 15th at the Union Club in Boston. The Chapter created the awards program to recognize and encourage the ethical practice of law at the earliest stages of a young lawyers professional career, and at the same time to shine a spotlight on ethics more generally, demonstrating that the legal community values lawyers who are guided by ethical principles.
The award, which includes a $1,000 scholarship, is given to students...

The RWU community was tickled to learn that one of our alums, Jason (“Jay”) Resmini is competing on the ABC reality show “The Bachelorette.” Now beginning its sixth season (May 24, actually) Jay, who graduated from RWU Law last year along with his brother Adam, will be one of 25 bachelors competing for the affections on Ali Fedotowsky (who was on ABC’s sibling show “The Bachelor” last year). Here is a link to coverage in the Providence Journal, here to the ABC website, and here for the Official Jay Resmini Fan Club page on Facebook.
Way to go, Jay!

I am very proud of the faculty we have built at Roger Williams—indeed, in addition to stellar academic and professional backgrounds, it is one of the most diverse and widely-published among all New England law schools. The results of Prof. Michael Yelnosky's scholarship study and faculty spotlights are available on our web site.
My blog archive is an excellent resource for learning more about our excellent faculty. For example:
Professor Chung on Bankruptcy Reform
Prof. Cahill Joins Justice Ginsburg at Major Symposium
Prof. Elorza Appointed Judge in Housing Court
The new academic year...

I had anticipated the end of law school to arrive with some amount of fanfare, and perhaps that feeling will come next week, at graduation. But when I finished my last final exam at 9pm on Tuesday, I wasn't filled with a feeling of exhilaration, but my old familiar friend, exhaustion. That test ended like the dozens of others I've had over the past three years, with my mind spinning and the nagging feeling that I'd forgotten to mention a key point.
But the next morning I woke up at 8am, same as always, despite purposefully leaving my alarm unset. I put on the coffee, I started the...

This has been my busiest semester yet as far as exam taking goes. I've taken five finals so far and I have one left to go. And then, that's it - my 2L year is over.
I remember the welcome to high school speech that was presented to me and my class as 9th graders, entering the big, grown up world of high school. The principal stood before me and informed me that these next four years would be over before I knew it. Well, that was true. And as I entered each level of higher education, I was told the same thing in the welcome speeches, "Enjoy your time here because...

Well, that dreaded time of the semester (finals) has come once again. This is off topic for this entry, but I hate finals. I'll write more on why another time, and will just summarize by stating finals are a law student's living hell. It's a time of constant studying, stress, and feeling like you're drowning. Having three kids to take care of on top of studying for six finals is, ohhh . . . a little challenging. With that said . . .
My oldest son, TJ, came home from school yesterday and told me they were discussing Mother's Day in his class. He said his teacher...

The RWU Law community enjoys a steady stream of terrific speakers, and this is especially the case in our signature programming areas, Marine/Environmental Law, Public Interest Law, and International Law. A late semester speaker touched on all three areas: Barry Hill is currently the Senior Counsel for Environmental Governance at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of International Affairs.
Jackie Rolleri, President of the Environmental Law Society; Susan Farady, Director, Marine Affairs Institute; University President Dr. Roy Nirschel; Barry Hill; Dean David Logan
