I have been in London now for a week and have had quite the adventure thus far. On the flight from Boston, I sat next to a musician who was travelling on business. As we started chatting, we discovered that we both lived in Providence and had a mutual friend who is also a 2L at RWU Law (it really is a small world). I then had the chance to visit with some family who live in the suburbs of London and get myself acclimated to life across the pond (for example, young people here wear their polo shirts with the collar up all the time and you have to look right when you cross the street because...

In addition to feting the graduates at Glen Manor, we also salute the end of the year for our 1Ls, exactly 8 months, 25 days, and 20 hours after their journey into the morass of the law began at Orientation. We toasted their hard work and the construction of a strong platform for future academic and professional success. Congratulations to the class of 2012!

The marathon of the first year of law school has come to an end. The end of the year was a test of endurance and focus, with a five-hour property exam and the law review competition immediately after our torts final, at a time when continuing onward seemed impossible. If I don’t make law review, I am still pleased with myself for finding the inner strength to pull through at the end of a week in total isolation with the enormous packet of information-- shooting in the dark and hoping for something coherent, precise, and maybe special. I can't believe that I leave for London in 3 days! I started packing last night and it is definitely turning out to be a challenge. We have to bring 3 weeks worth of suits--thank goodness for Burlington Coat Factory and their fabulously priced suits! I have never been to London before so I am so excited to explore a new place. I had a wonderful experience in undergrad studying in Salamanca, Spain for a semester and I am sure that the London program will not disappoint! I am also planning on going to Paris during the program for a long weekend.

At Roger Williams Law, we celebrate the successful end of the academic year with two signature events (in addition to Commencement), none better than the fancy/schmancy reception held for the graduates at the beautiful Glen Manor House (actually it is a mansion on the water) on the eve of Commencement. Faculty, staff, and even a few alums join in this festive evening, enjoying terrific food and drink in a drop-dead beautiful setting. I can’t believe it is already time to go to London. Where has all the time gone? Let’s see…after a very long semester, I decided to enter the Law Review Competition. Then I decided to take some much needed “me” time. I blew the dust off the Playstation 3 (I highly recommend Super Street Fighter), attended my brother’s graduation from URI (way to go baby bro!), and finally returned all the phone calls, emails, texts, and other messages I hadn’t gotten to because of the dreaded appellate brief and finals.

On March 18 and 19, seventeen second year Honors Program students were given an insider’s view of litigation in The Highest Court in the Land—the Supreme Court of the United States. The trip to Washington, D.C. was the culmination of a six week “perspectives course” on the Supreme Court taught by Prof. Diana Hassel, who was joined on the whirlwind trip by DC insider Prof. Jared Goldstein.

Summer has just begun and here I am a week away from leaving to study in London for 5 weeks. I am extremely excited to spend 3 weeks learning in class at the Inner Temple about comparative law and British common law. I am even more excited for two weeks of interning under a barrister or judge, an opportunity most law students never get the opportunity to do. And interning at the Inner Temple is an experience only fellow RWU London students will ever know.
