Prof. Michael Burger will give a talk entitled Clusters, Competition and Consequence: Law and Development in Norway’s Arctic Frontier.

This summer, Professor Burger traveled to North Norway -- an historic frontier known for its traditional fisheries, its role in the Pomor trade with Russia, and its dramatic fjords and landscapes -- to see how the region's small cities and communities are adapting to climate change and the opening of the Arctic. Professor Burger will discuss how these cities are jostling for pole position to capitalize on new economic opportunities in Arctic shipping, offshore oil and gas production, and tourism; how place-based conflicts over oil and gas drilling are playing out; and what it all means for local ecosystems and the global environment.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP to marineaffairs@rwu.edu if you plan on attending.
