A Roger Williams University School of Law Symposium-\n Sponsored by the /Roger Williams University Law Review/\n \n //\n \n *Borders\, Bans\, and New Americans: Immigration Law in the Trump \n Administration*\n \n 8:00 AM Registration & Coffee\n 8:30 AM Greeting & Introduction\n 8:40 AM Keynote Address: Immigration and America's Cities\n                 by Hon. Jorge Elorza\, Mayor\, City of Providence\n \n The Trump Administration has driven a renewed focus on immigration law and \n policy. Immigration was a signature issue for presidential candidate Trump \n during the 2016 campaign. Since his inauguration\, immigration has rarely left \n the headlines. The original and revised Refugee Executive Orders pausing \n travel to the U.S. of refugees and nationals of six (originally seven) \n countries spurred litigation and political mobilization\, including an order \n in June from the Supreme Court\, which will revisit the case this October\, \n coinciding with our conference. President Trump is also toughening border \n security\, and has proposed substantial new expenditures for a border wall. In \n addition\, another Executive Order has requested data on cities whose \n immigration enforcement policies diverge from the federal government’s \n approach\, raising the specter of possible repercussions for federal funding. \n Moreover\, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has changed interior \n enforcement policy\, arresting noncitizens who were not an enforcement \n priority for the Obama administration. At the same time\, President Trump has \n continued a key immigration initiative of the Obama administration\, the \n Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program\, that offers a reprieve \n from removal to so-called “Dreamers”—noncitizens brought to the U.S. as \n children who lack a legal status but nevertheless have profound attachments \n to the United States.\n \n Our conference will explore these issues with an array of distinguished \n speakers\, including Stephen Legomsky\, Washington University \n professor-emeritus and former Chief Counsel\, Citizenship & Immigration \n Services\, U.S. Dep't of Homeland Security\; Peter Schuck\, former Yale Law \n School professor\; Muneer Ahmad\, Deputy Dean for Experiential Education at \n Yale Law\; Josh Blackman\, South Texas College of Law\; Hon. Jorge Elorza\, Roger \n Williams Law Professor & Mayor of Providence\, RI\; Hon. Sheldon Whitehouse\, \n U.S. Senate\, RI (invited)\; Mark Noferi\, Executive Office for Immigration \n Review\, U.S. Dep’t of Justice (invited)\; RWU Law alum Luis Mancheno\, \n Clinical Fellow\, Cardozo Law School\, Maryellen Fullerton\, Brooklyn Law \n School\; Lenni Benson\, New York Law School\; and our very own Deborah Gonzalez\, \n Director of the Roger Williams Immigration Clinic. Papers from the conference \n will be published in the /Roger Williams Law Review/. The premise is a civil \n suit: A South Side African-American woman sues a Jewish North Shore real \n estate developer for defamation. The legal issue is whether or not she was \n falsely accused of stealing his watch and causing her financial harm.  \n DEFAMATION explores the highly charged issues of race\, religion\, gender\, \n class and the law with a twist: our law school audience is the jury. Through \n deliberations and post-show discussions\, audiences engage in civil discourse \n that challenges pre-conceived notions. After the trial\, the audience engages \n in a 15-minute deliberation led by the judge. The judge polls the audience \n twice - before the deliberation begins and at its end. The final vote ‘for \n the plaintiff’ or ‘for the defendant’ decides the outcome of the trial.\n \n For more information about DEFAMATION – THE PLAY\, click *here* [1].\n \n /Presented by the Office of Diversity & Outreach/\n \n /Co-Sponsored by the Office of the President/\n \n / /\n \n \n [1] http://www.defamationtheplay.com/ END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT UID:calendar.12676.field_date.0.42 SUMMARY:CLE Program: Management of Spinal and Extremities Radiology DTSTAMP:20170925T123000Z DTSTART:20171102T213000Z DTEND:20171103T003000Z URL;VALUE=URI:http://law.rwu.edu/event/cle-program-management-spinal-and-extremities-radiology LOCATION:Crowne Plaza\, Warwick\, Rhode Island DESCRIPTION:**\n \n *Management of Disc Pathologies and Other Spinal Abnormalities with \n Non-Surgical Pain Management with Strong Concentration on the Effects and \n Administration of Cortisone Injections.  *\n \n Presented by Roman Andrew Klufas\, MD\n \n This program will introduce the legal community to the appropriate use and \n interpretation of spinal and extremity imaging\, particularly in the setting \n of accident trauma.
