Behind Closed Doors

Wednesday, February 11, 2015
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm  |  Appellate Courtroom - Room 283

6:30 p.m.     Doors Open
7:00 p.m.     Performance Begins (approx. 40 mins.)
7:45 p.m.     Question & Answer session

Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors is an original play written and performed by survivors of domestic violence from Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships (SOAR), a task force of Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV). This performance is a true account of their experiences with domestic violence, hope and survival, and seeks to draw you into their lives to dispel the stigmas of this often misunderstood abuse.

The script was crafted by Trinity Repertory Company teaching artists Michael Williams and Francesca Montanile, who mentored the SOAR members in cultivating their performances. The play was developed over ten 90-minute sessions in which the survivors journaled, wrote poetry and told stories that were weaved into a play composed completely of their own words. The women speak both their own words and the words of their fellow survivors.

The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the members of SOAR.

This event is free and open to the campus community.

Sponsored by the RWU Women's Law Society, the RWU School of Law Dean of Students Office, the RWU Women’s Center, The Locker Room (Men’s Initiative), and the RWU's Department of Residence Life & Housing.
