Professor Brophy holds the Paul and Charlene Jones Chair in law at the University of Alabama, where he teaches trusts and estates and legal history.  His books include University, Court, and Slave: Proslavery Thought in Southern Colleges and Courts and the Coming of Civil War (Oxford, 2016), Reparations Pro and Con (Oxford 2006), and Reconstructing the Dreamland: The Tulsa Riot of 1921 (Oxford, 2002), and the co-authored Experiencing Trusts and Estates (WestAcademic 2017).

Johns Hopkins University

Professor Jones is the Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University. She was formerly a Presidential Bicentennial Professor at the University of Michigan, and was a founding director of the Michigan Law School Program in Race, Law & History. She is the author of All Bound Up Together: The Woman Question in African American Public Culture, 1830-1900 (2007,) a co-editor of Toward an Intellectual History of Black Women (2015), and author of the forthcoming Birthright Citizens: A History of Race and Rights in Antebellum America, from Cambridge University Press.

U.S. Supreme Court, Washington, DC

The Roger Williams University School of Law announces its ninth United States Supreme Court swearing-in ceremony.

Dean Michael Yelnosky will invite the candidates for admission to join them for breakfast the morning of the swearing-in ceremony. The breakfast will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Supreme Court of the United States. Supreme Court oral arguments will take place after the ceremony. Space is limited to twelve (12) attorney admissions. Alumni must be a member in good standing of the highest court of their jurisdiction for the past three years. Priority of acceptance into this program will be given to RWU Law graduates in order of receiving their email intent. A wait list will be taken once the twelve spaces are filled. You are allowed only one guest inside the courtroom. This program is now wait-listed. 

If you wish to participate, please indicate your intent as soon as possible via email, and no later than Friday, October 13, 2017 to lawevents@rwu.edu

Once you receive confirmation from the School of Law, you must follow the steps below to complete the application process.

The following criteria must be met for admission of U.S. Supreme Court Bar: 

(1) Be a member in good standing of the highest court of your jurisdiction for a period of at least three years immediately before October 2017.

(2) Present a certificate of good standing from that court.

(3) Be sponsored by two current members of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar.

(4) Pay the $200 fee.

(5) Complete the Supreme Court of the United States Application for Admission to Practice Form.
