Curtis Pouliot-Alvarez, 3L

Curtis Pouliot-Alvarez, 3LCurtis Pouliot-Alvarez came to RWU Law without the benefit of close family or acquaintances in the profession.

“I had no connections in the legal field,” he said. “But after just one year here, I had made some great ones.”

As a first-year law student, Curtis worked with the then-Dean David Logan to organize a major conference on a seminal U.S. Supreme Court case, “Gideon at 50: What the Right to Counsel Means Today,” featuring prominent lawyer and judges whom Curtis had met through professors, staff and alumni of RWU Law.

Between his first and second years, he served as a Summer Intern with the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General, Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit.

“RWU Law is all about experiential learning,” Curtis said. “While still a law student, I’ve been able to immerse myself in real-world legal issues with the guidance of experienced, practicing lawyers.”
Among his activities:

  • Law Student Counsel, Federal Public Defender Office for the District of Rhode Island (Semester in Practice)
  • Intern, McIntyre Tate LLP, Providence
  • Student Attorney, Immigration Clinic, RWU Law
  • President, Association for Public Interest Law
  • Lt. Governor of Public Interest, ABA Law Student Division
  • Coordinator, Alternative Spring Break
