Fast Facts
Alumni
Welcome, alumni, to the Office of Career Services! We can guide you through the process of making a change in your practice, career direction, or geographic area. In turn, you can help your alma mater by posting an employment opportunity with your firm or organization and updating your employment status with our office.
Jobs
We share job openings with over 100 other law schools through the Intercollegiate Job Bank. Please contact our office to obtain the username and password.
We also subscribe to several weekly and monthly publications that list legal job openings nationwide.
Office Resources
A resource with which alumni should become extremely familiar is the Online Resource Library available online on Symplicity and its hard copy counterpart, the Office of Career Services Handbook, available in our office. This resource contains great resume and cover letter samples, interviewing tips, advice on salary negotiations and much more. We strongly encourage you to make an individual appointment with any of our career services counselors to help you determine career interests, map out job search strategies, practice interview techniques, and further develop the professional skills necessary in the legal community. Evening appointments are available upon request.
Individual Appointments
Alumni can set up individual appointments with any member of our office to discuss the unique needs facing them from their initial post-grad job search to advanced career transitions.
Career Fairs & Legal Career Options Day
We register for several regional and national career fairs, affording students and alumni the opportunity to interview in locations outside of Rhode Island, such as New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New Hampshire. Some of these remote career fairs are “specialty” career fairs (e.g., patent law or public interest). Our own Legal Career Options Day, which we co-sponsor with the Rhode Island Bar Association, is held each November and features networking opportunities with over sixty attorneys representing legal careers in the following areas: academic, alternative careers, corporate, government/public interest, judiciary, and law firms.
Reciprocity
Reciprocity allows RWU Law students and alumni to use the career services offices of other law schools. Also see: Reciprocity polices for ABA law schools.

Employment Status Update
The Office of Career Services strives to maintain accurate employment statistics for RWU Law graduates. This is important not only for required reporting to the National Association for Law Placement and other agencies, but also for students to examine trends in the labor market and because it enhances the value of your degree. For these reasons, we ask that all alumni, but particularly recent graduates, keep in touch with the Office of Career Services and inform us of your current employment status. Please click here to report your current employment status to the School of Law.
How You Can Help
One of the major functions of the Office of Career Services is to bring employers, students, and alumni together. Help your employer recruit students and alumni by posting an academic-year, summer, or permanent position or by participating in our On-Campus Interview Program. To post your postion or to participate in career services programs, please contact our office.
The office maintains its own Career Resource Library in Suite 18, which provides students with unfettered access to a growing collection of career development and job search aid materials. The library also has two computer terminals with links to a vast network of legally related internet resources and a printer, all of which are conveniently accessible for alumni use throughout the day.
The Office of Career Services maintains current job postings for entry-level and lateral attorney positions on a site accessible by RWU Law students and alumni.
