Family & Divorce Mediation Training Course
40 Hours - Winter 2012

This forty (40) hour skills development training course is intended to provide lawyers, counselors and others with an understanding of the contexts in which family conflict arises, the various legal and practical issues in play when families disintegrate, and with in-depth training in the skills that a mediator might employ to help the divorcing parties resolve their differences.  The training course exposes the participant to relevant factors and normative approaches used by courts in dividing property, determining child support, custody, visitation, and spousal support among other issues, while recognizing that parties in mediation are empowered to reach their own agreements with the aid of the mediator.  Role playing exercises are used to integrate theory with practice.

Participants successfully completing this training course are issued Certificates of Completion of Family & Divorce Mediation Training.  Rhode Island Attorneys successfully completing the training are also eligible for 20 hours of MCLE credit including 2 hours of ethics credit.

COURSE MEETINGS:

This class will be conducted intensively during the three-week period from March 6th through March 24th.  Classes will meet in accordance with the following schedule:

Tuesdays, 03/06, 03/13 & 03/20/2012 from 6:00 - 9:15 p.m. in Providence
Thursdays, 03/08, 03/15 & 03/22/2012 from 6:00 - 9:15 p.m. in Providence
Saturdays, 03/10, 03/17 & 03/24/2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in Bristol

The Tuesday and Thursday evening classes are scheduled at the Providence, RI clinical facility at 150 Washington Street.  The Saturday sessions are at the law school in Bristol, RI

TUITION & ENROLLMENT LIMIT:

The cost of this training course is $1,000, with an early enrollment discount of $100 for participants who sign up and pay by January 31, 2012.   This training course will have an enrollment limited to no more than twenty (20) participants.
