Leticia Tavares '14

Leticia TavaresWhen Leticia Tavares ’14 became an American citizen in 2012, it was the culmination of a journey that began in childhood, when her mother left their native Brazil and migrated to the United States alone to begin building a better life for her family.

“She went through a lot, and I know I’m blessed to be where I am today,” says Leticia. “My mother’s sacrifices motivate me to work hard and overcome every obstacle in my way.”

Today, Leticia is vice president of the Multi-Cultural Law Students Association, as well as a member of the Law Review and Moot Court Board, and a recipient of the Law School Alumni Association Scholarship.

Roger Williams student groups “really throw the red carpet down, with so many events to support diverse students,” she says. “That definitely helped me get through my first year at RWU Law!”
