Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution Track

This track is designed for students seeking a strong background in litigation and trial advocacy, from basic evidence and civil procedure to hands-on judicial and legal externships.

A lawyer skilled in civil litigation and dispute resolution tries to resolve his or her client’s disputes, in areas as diverse as landlord and tenant issues, property disputes, unpaid bills, professional negligence, breach of contracts, intellectual property disputes and general business disputes.

When a client initially comes to the lawyer for advice, the lawyer will typically evaluate the claim, whatever it may be, and advise the client on next steps that should be taken – including whether litigation or mediation and settlement is preferable. The lawyer should be well-versed in civil procedure, discovery and trial advocacy; but also adept in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) approaches.

Clinics/Externships

Inhouse Clinics and Clinical Externships legal education is law school training in which students participate in client representation under the supervision of a practicing attorney or law professor.  RWU Law's Clinical Programs offer unique and effective learning opportunities and the opportunity for practical experience while still in law school.
