Stefanie Fischer (she/her/hers) (EDITOR IN CHIEF)

Photo of Stefanie FischerStefanie Fischer is originally from the Adirondacks in Upstate New York but has been a Rhode Island resident for close to eight years. She graduated from the George Washington University with a degree in American History and Journalism. Before law school, she was a professional equestrian and worked in the emerging cannabis industry. She is currently completing her master’s degree in psychology through Pepperdine University. Stefanie is a member of the Honors Program and currently serves as a Teaching Assistant for two doctrinal classes. She also serves as Lead Fellow in the Academic Excellence Teaching Program and a Teaching Assistant in the Writing Center. Stefanie is externing with the Honorable Bruce M. Selya in the First Circuit for the duration of her 3L year; after law school, Stefanie will be clerking for the Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the Honorable Paul A. Suttell. Outside of law school, Stefanie enjoys riding her horses, cooking, and hiking, sailing, and kayaking with her fiancé and their dog, Baloo.

Madeleine Fenderson (she/her/hers) (MANAGING EDITOR)

Madeleine FendersonMadeleine Fenderson is from Falmouth, Maine, and graduated from Connecticut College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and the University of Rhode Island with an M.A. in Marine Affairs. During the summer after her 1L year, Madeleine worked at the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office in the Environment and Energy Unit. At Roger Williams University School of Law, Madeleine is a member of the Honors Program, Moot Court. and Law Review. She served as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Nikki Kuckes’s Civil Procedure class and Professor Monica Teixeira de Sousa’s Property class. Madeleine is currently a writing tutor during her 3L year with Dr. Justin Kishbaugh.
 
During the summer following her 2L year, Madeleine worked as a Summer Associate at Pierce Atwood LLP in their Portland, Maine, and Providence, Rhode Island offices. She plans to pursue a career in environmental and land use litigation. In her free time, Madeleine enjoys spending time in, on, or by the ocean. 

Michaela Conley (she/her/hers) (EXECUTIVE ARTICLES EDITOR)

Michaela ConleyMichaela Conley is from Middletown, RI and currently lives in Newport, RI. She graduated from the University of San Diego, with a bachelor's degree in International Relations. Prior to starting law school, Michaela worked at a law firm in Providence, RI, specializing in veteran's benefits. At Roger Williams University School of Law, Michaela is a member of the Honors Program, an Executive Articles Editor for Law Review, and a board member of Moot Court. After her first year of law school, Michaela was a judicial intern at the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and last semester, she externed at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. During the summer following her 2L year, Michaela was a summer associate at Locke Lord LLP in Providence. In her free time, Michaela loves to garden, go to concerts, and attend Boston sports games.

Tyler Haas (he/him/his) (EXECUTIVE ARTICLES EDITOR)

Tyler HassTyler Haas is from Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and a minor in African Studies. He also graduated from Suffolk University with a master's degree in Accounting. Prior to law school, Tyler worked as an assurance associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and in multiple operational roles at PaymentWorks. At Roger Williams University School of Law, Tyler is a member of the Honors Program and the Association for Public Interest Law. During his 2L year, Tyler served as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Murphy's Civil Procedure courses and participated in the Alternative Spring Break program as a volunteer for SouthCoast Fair Housing. He has served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Patricia A. Sullivan at the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Paul A. Suttell at the Rhode Island Supreme Court. During the summer following his 2L year, he was a summer associate at Robinson+Cole.

Amanda RotimiAmanda Rotimi is originally from, and currently lives in, Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Rhode Island College with a B.A. in Justice Studies and a minor in Sociology. During the summer following her 1L year, she was a judicial intern for the Honorable Mary S. McElroy at the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island. As a 2L at Roger Williams School of Law, she was President of Phi Alpha Delta, Historian of the Black Law Student Association, and a Teaching Assistant to Professor Kuckes. Over her 2L summer she was a Summer Associate at CCK. Currently, she is a judicial extern at the U.S. Court of Appeals, a member of the Honors Program and serves as the Executive Notes and Comments Editor for Roger Williams University Law Review. Outside of law school, she loves to watch documentaries, take road trips, and explore the restaurant scene in Rhode Island.

Julia SternJulia Stern is from Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in History. At Roger Williams School of Law, she is a member of the Honors Program. She is a research assistant for Professor Teitz and Professor Sack, as well as a teaching assistant for Professor Sack’s Criminal Law class. During the summer following her 2L year, she interned at the Victim Rights Center of Connecticut. Outside of school, she loves to hike, rock climb, and spend time with her dogs Pepper and Milo.

Todd D. AmaralTodd D. Amaral is a 3L at Roger Williams University School of Law where he is a Notes and Comments Editor for the Law Review. In addition to assisting the incoming 2L members with their comments, he is a member of the Law Review Alumni Relations and Diversity committees.
He is also a member of the RWU Law Honors Program and a two-time Sea Grant Law Fellow. He graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and received his MBA from Providence College. This summer he is Law Clerk at Higgins, Cavanagh & Cooney, LLP in Providence, RI. Previously, he worked in corporate finance, internal audit, and fraud prevention.

Rebecca CostelloRebecca Costello is from Middletown, Rhode Island. Before coming to law school, Rebecca worked as a policy analyst for the RI Department of Labor & Training specializing in paid family and sick leave, unemployment insurance, and workforce development. She graduated from American University in 2019 with a master's degree in Public Administration and Policy from American University and graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Gender Studies. Rebecca is dedicated to working in public service and hopes to become a public defender after graduation. Outside of law school, Rebecca enjoys reading for fun and taking her dog, Gus, for walks around Newport.

Kyle EastonKyle Easton is originally from Winchester, Massachusetts, and currently resides in Bristol. He graduated from Hobart College with a bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in philosophy. Before attending law school, Kyle worked as a consultant in energy markets. In the summer after his 1L year, Kyle worked in health care law and hopes to pursue a career in health care law after graduation. Outside of law school Kyle enjoys skiing and sailing.

Danielle BrackettDanielle Brackett is from the seacoast of New Hampshire. She graduated cum laude from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Human Resources Management. At Roger Williams School of Law, Danielle is a member of the Honors Program and has served as a student leader for the Street Law Pro Bono program. During the summer following her 1L year, Danielle worked for a solo-practice employment law attorney located in East Providence. During the summer following her 2L year, Danielle worked in-house as a law clerk for the Employment Law Group at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston.

Linda CowenLinda Cowen is from Coventry, Rhode Island. In 2021, she graduated summa cum laude from Roger Williams University, where she majored in Political Science and Economics. Linda is a member of the Honors Program and Treasurer of the Tax and Business Law Society.
The summer after her 1L year, Linda served as a judicial intern for Honorable Mary S. McElroy in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. Since the Spring semester of her 2L year, Linda has been working at Cetrulo LLP and will continue to do so throughout her 3L year. Linda is also a Civil Procedure and Conflicts of Law teaching assistant for Professor Teitz and a research assistant for Professor Allen. Upon graduating from law school, Linda plans to pursue an LLM in Taxation.

Keith Lefevre (he/him/his) (RHODE ISLAND EDITOR)

Keith Lefevre Keith Lefevre serves as the Roger Williams Law Review Rhode Island Editor. He is a SouthCoast Massachusetts native and comes to the study of law from a previous career in the HVAC industry, where he spent 15 years as a licensed gas fitter specializing in residential and light commercial systems. He is currently exploring a career in business, real estate, and transactional law. He enjoys the guitar, yoga, and cooking in a cast-iron pan. 

Jonte’ McKenzie (he/him/his) (RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EDITOR)

Jonte' McKenzieJonte’ McKenzie is originally from Paterson, New Jersey. He later moved to Georgia where he graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and minors in Biology and Spanish. He is a third-year student at Roger Williams University School of Law. During his 2L year, Jonte’ served as the Vice President of his BLSA chapter and the 2L representative of the Student Bar Association. Currently, Jonte' is the Research and Development Editor of Roger Williams University Law Review and is an advisory board member of the Roger Williams University School of Law Trial Team. Before law school, Jonte’ worked as an immigration paralegal, helping prepare immigrant visa applications for consular officers to review. Since the summer following his 1L year, Jonte’ has been working as a law clerk for Bremer Law & Associates, an immigration law practice located in Providence, and as a Student Admissions Counselor for Roger Williams University School of Law. In his free time, Jonte’ enjoys traveling, listening to music, playing tennis, learning languages, cooking, etc.

Hilary Levey Friedman (she/her/hers) (JUSTICE FOR ALL EDITOR)

Hilary Levey FriedmanHilary Levey Friedman is thrilled to be pursuing a J.D., and even more thrilled to be a member of the Law Review Editorial Board as the Justice For All Editor. In law school, she is a member of Moot Court, a Presidential Scholar, and a member of the Honors Program. She also externed for the Honorable Judge William Smith in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and interned in the Civil and Community Rights Unit at the Attorney General's office; this fall she will be an extern with the Federal Public Defender. Hilary holds degrees in Sociology from Harvard College, University of Cambridge, and Princeton University. Prior to law school, she taught at Brown University and wrote primarily about childhood socialization and popular culture. Originally from Michigan, she now calls Providence, RI home with her family (most importantly, her tween sons). Hilary has previously served as President of the Rhode Island chapter of the National Organization for Women, on the United Way RI’s Public Policy Committee, and as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate.

Andrea StahelinAndrea Staehelin grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2021, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Colorado Boulder. At Roger Williams University School of Law, Andrea is a member of the Law Review executive board as the Justice for All Development Editor and serves as the President for the Women’s Law Society. Additionally, she is a student member of the Rhode Island Women's Bar Association. During the summer following her 1L year, Andrea served as a judicial intern for Chief Federal Judge McConnell in the United States District Courts for the District of Rhode Island.  During the summer following her 2L year, Andrea worked as a Rule 9 student attorney at the Rhode Island Legal Services and interned at the Center for Justice in the education department. Currently, she is externing with the Honorable Justice Long in the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

Course Types

We have classified RWU Law classes under the following headers. One of the following course types will be attached to each course which will allow students to narrow down their search while looking for classes.

Core Course

Students in the first and second year are required to take classes covering the following aspects of the law—contracts, torts, property, criminal law, civil procedure, and constitutional law, evidence, and professional responsibility.  Along with these aspects, the core curriculum will develop legal reasoning skills.

Elective

After finishing the core curriculum the remaining coursework toward the degree is completed through upper level elective courses.  Students can choose courses that peak their interests or courses that go along with the track they are following.

Seminar

Seminars are classes where teachers and small groups of students focus on a specific topic and the students complete a substantial research paper.

Clinics/Externships

Inhouse Clinics and Clinical Externships legal education is law school training in which students participate in client representation under the supervision of a practicing attorney or law professor.  RWU Law's Clinical Programs offer unique and effective learning opportunities and the opportunity for practical experience while still in law school.
