Scholarships and grants are awards of financial
aid that you do not have to repay. The major
source of scholarships for law students
is the School itself.
These merit-based awards are offered under
criteria determined by the Admissions Committee.
All students applying to the School of Law
are considered for these scholarships; no
separate application is required; Questions
concerning these awards should be directed
to the Admissions Office.
Honors Scholarships are awarded to admitted
students on the basis of exceptional merit.
The Professor Robert. B Kent Academic Award and Roger Williams University School
of Law Scholarships are offered
to select applicants to the School of
Law. Notification will be sent with the
letter of admission from the School of
Law. Students must maintain superior academic
performance in order to sustain the scholarship
in subsequent years.

to select applicants to the School of

Leadership Scholarships
are awarded to students who not only show
strong academic promise but who the Admissions
Committee believes will enter the profession
with a willingness to serve as role models
in their community, help others surmount
obstacles, and have a commitment to public
service. These scholarships are awarded
at the time of admission.

Esther and John Clark, the Professor
Esther Clark Endowed Scholarship
is awarded to a rising second year student
on the basis of outstanding academic performance.
The Gary L. Bahr Memorial Scholarship
is named in memory of Professor Gary L.
Bahr, a member of the founding faculty
at Roger Williams University School of
Law and the first Associate Dean for Academic
Affairs, who passed away July 7, 1999.
Awarded annually, this endowed scholarship
is given to a first year students. This
scholarship recognizes the students who
received the highest combined academic
average in Contracts and Torts for their
Division.
Each year a $500 Law Alumni
Scholarships is awarded to a
deserving law student who has completed
their first year of study based on academic
merit and demonstrated financial need.
Established in 1992, the Rhode
Island Trial Lawyers Association Endowed
Scholarship, funded with generous
support from the Rhode Island Trial Lawyers
Association, is awarded to a law student.
Deserving recipients are selected based
on their demonstrated interest in Trial
or other Legal Advocacy courses and must
be in good academic standing.
The Thurgood Marshall Memorial
Scholarship will be awarded to
a law student who has completed his/her
second-year curriculum and has demonstrated
academic merit and financial need.
The Jack & Louise Birnberg
Family Foundation Award honors
the perseverance, determination and dedication
a student demonstrates throughout their
entire law school career. The award is
given annually to two students in their
final year.
Many local bar associations, corporations,
community groups and fraternal organizations
offer scholarships and grants to law students.
