Margie Caranci, Clinic Administrator
Margie was hired in 1995 to open and staff the newly founded Law Clinic in historic Downtown Providence. She brought over 20 years of paralegal and administrative experience to the program.
Margie is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Law Clinic. In addition, she is working one-on-one with the clinical students assisting them with Rhode Island Court Procedure and format.
Margie’s observes that the clinical program here at Roger Williams School of Law is “one of the most comprehensive, hands-on clinical programs available.” She adds that “we offer our students the opportunity to hone their problem-solving skills in all aspects of real client representation, including client interviewing and counseling, fact-finding through case investigation and legal research, discovery, dispute counseling and resolution, negotiation, case management and law office management, and trial preparation.
Our students get to practice law through a ‘safety net’ by having a full-time member of the clinical faculty guide them through each step of the legal process. Our program allows each of our students to develop the basic lawyering skills they acquired in their first two years of law school through practical experience.”
Speaking from her personal experience working with the students at the Clinic over the past eleven years, Margie has seen "that by participating in the clinical program, the students gain the confidence that can only come from experience. The program offers the students an opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day workings of the legal system."
Margie’s favorite part of her job is her day-to-day interaction with the students. “I just love working with the students and watching them grow into confident advocates for their clients. I have seen some very quiet, shy students totally transformed by the end of the semester. I love being part of their clinical experience."
