Jim Westgate, Assistant Clinic Administrator
Jim came to the clinic after serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy, 17 of which he worked as a paralegal. He started at the clinic in 2003, and was recently promoted to Assistant Administrator of the Law Clinic.
Jim says that what he likes most about working at the clinic is the great staff and the professionalism of the students. He thinks each semester brings a more motivated group of students and that it is wonderful to see how they grow from being nervous to being extremely confident. Jim said that “each student makes me feel proud that I helped them in some sort of way, and it
gratifying to see them graduate and move on and succeed as a lawyer.”
Jim believes that the law clinic offers an opportunity that no other class at the law school can. He says that the real life experience that a student gains through the clinic is invaluable because it gives them a sense of confidence that can only come from actual court experience. Jim notes that of the many students that have gone through the clinic, most have told him that it was the best thing they did in law school.
