Roger Williams University School of Law
Announces Internship Opportunities in Portugal
BRISTOL, R.I. (November 12, 2008): Roger Williams University School of Law has taken an important step forward in its special relationship with Portugal, country of origin for a large percentage of Southern New England’s population, Dean David A. Logan announced today.
Sérvulo & Associados, a major Portuguese law firm, will provide summer internships for select RWU Law students, said Professor David A. Rice, director of the law school’s Portuguese-American Comparative Law Center.
“This is what we expect will be the first of a number of internships with prominent Lisbon law firms,” Rice said.
Sérvulo & Associados is a leading 60-lawyer Lisbon firm known for its expertise in government contacts, public law, regulatory, corporate, project finance, and economic crime, serving Portuguese, European Union, and international clients.
Application is open to students who will have completed two of their three years of law studies. Strength of academic record, demonstrated interest in foreign or international law practice, particular law firm subject area knowledge or interests, and distinguishing personal qualifications will be weighed in selecting the interns. Portuguese language fluency or knowledge is not required but a commitment to learning basic Portuguese is essential.
Successful applicants will receive stipends for transportation and an additional amount for lodging and other expenses for living in Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal.
Details of the application procedure will be announced by December 1, 2008. For more information, please visit the Portuguese-American Comparative Law Center link at http://law.rwu.edu.
