The Future of Cybersecurity

THIS FRIDAY: Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed, U.S. Rep Jim Langevin join policymakers, judges, lawyers and security specialists at RWU Law.

CybersecurityBRISTOL, R.I., October 8, 2015:  Ready or not, the Age of Cybersecurity is upon us. Each day brings new stories exposing the vulnerabilities of our online world: the massive recent hack of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management; almost daily data breaches at well-known companies such as Target and Anthem; Edward Snowden’s disclosures about the National Security Agency; the pros and cons of end-to-end encryption and dangers of the Internet “going dark.”

How can we maintain the benefits of our communications environment while protecting our data and privacy? At Roger Williams University School of Law’s “Cybersecurity + Law Enforcement: The Cutting Edge” symposium, on Friday, October 16, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:15 p.m., key players in the debate will discuss and propose legal responses to these challenges.

Participants encompass prominent experts from government, academia and the private sector, including:

  • U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed, and Representative Jim Langevin;
  • U.S. Assistant Attorney General John Carlin (National Security Division);
  • The Hon. William E. Smith, U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and the Hon. Patricia A. Sullivan, U.S. Magistrate, District of Rhode Island
  • Jessica Rich, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection
  • David Lieber, Senior Privacy Policy Counsel, Google
  • Linn Foster Freedman, data privacy and security law expert, Robinson+Cole
  • and many more!

Registration fee of $50 includes all symposium sessions, lunch, and nine (9) Rhode Island MCLE credits. RWU Law Class of 2015 alumni and current students from RWU/RWU Law and other area colleges may attend the symposium free of charge.
