Betty Anne Waters '98PROVIDENCE, R.I., Apr. 1, 2015 — Testimony concluded Tuesday in Raymond D. "Beaver" Tempest Jr.'s bid to overturn his conviction for murdering a 22-year-old Woonsocket woman in 1982.

Betty Anne Waters [RWU Law '98], the Rhode Island lawyer who pursued his innocence claim with a legal team from the New England Innocence Project, was the final witness to take the stand in the postconviction relief hearing that began in early February.

Waters told of becoming involved in the case more than a decade ago. Her focus, she said, was DNA evidence she hoped would exonerate Tempest, now 62. [...]
