Public Interest Summer Stipend Program
Public Interest Summer Stipend Program
Public interest summer internships are invaluable opportunities to gain experience, make contacts and build upon your commitment to public interest. Because many public interest opportunities are unpaid, students can apply for a summer stipend through the Office of Career Development's competitive Public Interest Stipend Program. Historically, around twenty-five to thirty stipends are awarded annually. In the past, stipends have allowed students to work for employers such as the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, Harvard Legal Aid Bureau and the American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island, to name a few.
Both the University and the School of Law show their dedication to public interest by contributing generously to this program. Further, The Feinstein Institute for Legal Services, the Student Bar Association and the Association for Public Interest Law team up to sponsor a fun and very successful Winter Auction to raise even more funds for the program. The Office of Career Development holds an information session about the Public Interest Stipend Program early in the spring semester.
