Daniel LukasikStress, Anxiety and Depression in the Legal Profession

In celebration of National Law Student Mental Health Day, Phi Alpha Delta, the Office of the Dean of Students, and the Student Bar Association will host attorney Daniel Lukasik.

Mr. Lukasik has been recognized as a one of the “Best Lawyers in America”, a “Superlawyer of New York State.” These accolades did not come solely on his trial advocacy skills, but also in light of the approach he takes to each and every client thanks to something that he lives with every day: depression.

Mr. Lukasik has become very vocal and open about depression and mental illness, specifically in the legal community. He has created a (very active) blog, Lawyers with Depression, where he posts his comments surrounding advancements in the treatment of depression and mental illness, has guest blogs from leading psychologists and psychiatrists. He has interviewed attorneys from around the world that are suffering with depression. In addition to this, he hosts weekly support group events for lawyers in the Buffalo/Niagara region that are struggling with depression and anxiety.

Mr. Lukasik has been recognized for his work by the Erie County Bar Association (which has produced a documentary with Mr. Lukasik, “A Terrible Melancholy: Depression in the Legal Profession”) and has been in the process of writing a book of the same name with assistance from the American Bar Association.
